Hyundai Tucson: Versatility for Your Family on a Budget

The Hyundai Tucson may be in the highly competitive compact SUV segment, but it still manages to stand out from the crowd with its luxury styling and affordable pricing. You can relax when driving your family around town in the Tucson since it is known to be an extremely safe vehicle. Drivers all around Harvey and New Orleans agree that the Tucson is an excellent choice.

Regardless of what you are looking for, you should be able to find it in the Hyundai Tucson. This SUV comes with the latest technology and safety features. Meanwhile, the 7-speed EcoShift Dual Clutch transmission offers performance and efficiency that the competition just cannot keep up with. For people who are looking for a true luxury experience on a budget, the Tucson boasts heated and ventilated front seats, along with rear seats. Parents will appreciate that the standard cloth interior features fabric from Yes Essentials that resists stains and odors.

2016 vs 2017 Tucson: What's New

Because Hyundai redesigned the Tucson for the 2016 model year, updates are minimal for the 2017 version. However, the biggest update is the newly available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems, which offer connectivity for almost all smartphone users, features that not all competitors are offering yet.

You will also notice that the Tucson Limited got a new Infinity audio system with 315 watts. No matter which entry-level model you choose, the cloth interior colors now include the Yes Essentials fabric mentioned above that is stain-resistant. In the past, this fabric was only available for interiors that were black or gray. The Sport trim now has the nicer door panels previously found only on the Limited and the Eco trims, while the Sport trim comes standard with rear-seat air vents.

While that may not seem like a large number of updates, remember that the 2016 Tucson was heavily updated, which the 2017 model takes advantage of. That means you get the new body styling and the relatively new optional turbocharged engine. The previous model year included an expanded list of available safety and convenience features. This means that many of the amenities you get in the 2017 Tucson have only been available for two model years.

Tracing the History of the Hyundai Tucson

Hyundai introduced the Tucson as a 2005 model with a platform similar to that of the Elantra. It was designed to be versatile and athletic, while offering the choice of front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive that featured Borg Warner Electronic InterActive Torque Management.

This original Tucson ran on a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder or a 2.7-liter V6 engine. Standard features included air conditioning, 6 speakers, 16-inch alloy wheels, traction control, and electronic stability control. The Tucson Limited was added to the lineup for 2006 with leather seating and other premium appointments. SiriusXM Satellite Radio became standard in 2008, and fuel economy increased the following year.

The 2010 Tucson brought in the second generation with the new Fluidic Sculpture design language. This model was 3.3 inches longer yet 61 pounds lighter than the previous generation. It also had increased cargo capacity to 25.7 cubic feet with all seats occupied or 55.8 cubes with the rear seats folded. While a new 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine with 176 horsepower was introduced, a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder became the base engine the following year. The 2014 Hyundai Tucson also saw a significant refresh, including standard Bluetooth* and direct-injection engines.
